How little words
Of tiny letters
Crush me to pieces
And put me in fetters…
(Or make me feel love
Or alone forever
Or alone forever
Because of sentences
Strung together…)
It surprises me.
I’ve grieved for days
Over shapes
Once engraved
To be characters
We all agreed
Mean something.
Now I believe
A back-and-forth
Conversation
Is the Mother
Of Creation,
Of Creation,
Because I can write
A word or two
And it appears
Somewhere new:
A word or two
And it appears
Somewhere new:
Inside your mind!
Court’sy of mine
Now tell me that
Is not divine!
Twenty-six gods
Infinite arrays
Means infinite meaning
In infinite plays.
Whether your words
Are on your tongue
Or on your lips
Or your throat has sung,
If you asked me,
I think it’s good
These characters danced
And you understood.
