One of the Marys

Sister, why do you still act the same
You must see that it was all in His name
Please pay attention
Like He told you back then
Set down your things
Will you also cleanse
Him or will you bring
The worries your heart defends

Brother, when you died, what did you see?
Because on that day on His face was agony
He was anticipating
Something I could barely perceive
I was suffocating
I was remembering a dream
Where the same thing became of me

Teacher, do I yet understand
My hair cascades like flames in the sand
Like a river that swells
And runs down Your feet
I hear the wedding bells
The Bridegroom eventually
Must depart from this place
Then I’ll wash the tears from my face

I had this dream where I’m about to drown
In a river so wide I saw no solid ground
You were the only thing I could see
And no one could ever write down
What You said to me

I saw a garden and You were there
Out from the tomb, out called cold air
And yet we still asked for it to pass somehow
You even asked as much in that midnight prayer
But no one could save You now

You asked me to lay the crown
And I watched the oil trickle down
And when You said that it was the most beautiful thing
I knew it was done
You said it in front of everyone
“She has done all that anyone could do for Me.”

And after our prayer –
I saw the stars fall everywhere
Their palms would fan all the ash
And the stench of dark was in the air
And after our prayer –
I once again had bound up all my hair
You were bound for the gates of Hell
And I said I would follow You there

Teacher, please hear me
You are all that I could need
I will wash You and clothe You
My well of faith runs deep
But please forgive me when I go out
To weep
