Creation passes like a vapor wisp;
Angelic choirs, come and save the lost!
O after nine days of the breathless crisp,
The sacred day of wind, the Pentecost . . .
Creation burned in eternal fire-storm;
The Lord has loved her through His ember-cloud,
And tongues of fire warned in spectral form:
“The love of God incinerates the proud.”
Creation rose above a firmament
And sank beneath the tide judging the earth;
The Holy Spirit once again is sent
To hover over these waters of rebirth.
Creation longed for God in dust antique
Until the Rock, Peter, began to speak . . .
