09 Feb Discomforts, Large and Small

Becoming lost requires little steps
Astray the path in valleys dark in dream,
Amid the creak of wild-willows, God’s precepts
Becomes a harsher path than it may seem,
His rugged trails ascend in high esteem;
In time, in terror, one resists His call,
The mountain not so sweet as honey-cream,
Its thorns, its crags, unsteady ledges, all
Conjoin complex in bends to stumble, pits to fall —
So let it be to one, if one accepts
The road ahead, flourished in the moon-beam
Along the path, temptation intercepts
In fearsome gurgles leading down a stream
To quench frustrations’ prickling, prodding gleam;
And through the days, fatigued by daily brawl
In murky waters, where trifles teem,
I find the grace to persevere, to crawl;
I praise the Lord for life’s discomforts, large and small.
