Remembrance

Good bitterness bites and reproves a sin.
Love melts metal and ice burns blue.
I cannot help but love you, even you,
A word like wine or a prick of a pin,

But never ask of me the impossible — how may
I master my own heart more than you?
Grave were the words that bound us two,
We martyred each other at the altar that day.

When I wallow the wade of prayerful thirst,
I ask the angels to carry up your prayers first.
