17 May Glory Will Rise (The Ascension)
Jesus prayed on Earth lifting His eyes
To see the closest Earth can come to bear
The Father’s face in wide, abyssal skies,
Eternal depths above a mountain stair.
Glory will rise away but never fade,
So said the linen-laden men of two,
Nation of God, no longer stare amazed,
The Lord imparts a task to each of you.
Lapis-lazuli plates the palace floors
Of mortared Heaven, sealed until the day
Jesus descends again to righteous roars,
For now He reigns in us, so far away.
We dare to hope, testing my tearful heart
The day Jesus declared He must depart.
