Tarry not to rest upon our ashen Earth thou fire o frightful fire
Pale flame unbegotten ere all light thou doth inspire
Hid in smoke thou visage thou voice hath made cinder of cedar-trees
Laden deep in thatch o’er warps and wefts of stubborn briar
Mountains almighty flow down flow into wine-dark seas
Even these unplumbed depths boil riven Earth its pyre
Thou fire o darkest fire consumeth dragons dread thou please
Sunder heaven with hopeless violence do swift all thee require
Hither inundation thither conflagration deluvium as these
Desired which in all foundations our downward-pointed choir
From dusted nothings made fadeth fast to nothings be
All betwixt by nothings these nothings cometh ever-nigher
Hasten to roam this eve of embers thou fire horrifying fire
