Blessed are the Poor

Offer the highest of heavenly upbraids

Forfeit nothing to what wicked invades,

Or the rule of rats by vermin seizure;

Make a spectacle of the evil parades,

Rejecting the sultry seeking of paids,

Your noblest pursuits are in leisure.

Take to swelling boredom as profound.

Learn you need not the world around,

It needs your blood by duty addressed.

A truth, a plaint everywhere found:

Many crestfallen were never crowned

They were poor and the poor are blest.

Most abominable deed of our day:

Some press the indigent to pay

To let them in poverty stay.
