20 Nov Angel of Good Works

Never empty is a quiet,
Never filled is noisome riot.
The quiet speaks its hidden word
In shepherd’s tone, in lordly gale
Where God and I in great detail
Between us work no work deferred.
How here I wish for a pray’rful prize,
Might one catch me in good work’s end:
A cousin angel of enfleshed disguise
Purport of me this to kin and friend.
Such confusion would meet me well
Not for mine boast but of Jesus raised,
As for retrospect of a servant praised
Without gloria mundi, for this shall tell
In a human world of human blame
I did one good work worthy the name.
