Song of Sisters-Vowed

I heard a whisper on the wind:
It was the song of sisters-vowed;
Women trade dress and jewels
For habit, coif and shroud.
Younger girls trade their youth
For service, work and prayer,
Whilst those of age worth a rest
Labor diem for their share.
It fills, this song of sisters-vowed,
Unclean spirits with ire,
For such a sacrifice is made
By heavenly, holy fire.
Rise o daughters of sinful men
Who angels call to this life,
Whose lips impart the Spirit’s will
To bring to Christ His wife.
I heard this song of sisters-vowed
Whose travails the Lord has seen:
The hungry, poor, bare and sick
Are now sated, safe and clean.
They keep a covenant with God
Whose mercy endures forever,
So now I sing of sisters-vowed
Who hold this world together.
