I – Son of the Ransom
The worst nothing is the nothing I know
Under perplexed skies, hazed winds blow
Son of the garden, knows the church-grim
He trembles when the organ plays the hymn
The best of things are all out of sight
Fighters who dream, dreamers who fight
Son of the past, receives a deck stacked
Shuffling words to write white to black
Sanhedrin, Sanhedrin, on Gabbatha stage
Thorns for the crown, or crown for the age
Son of the ancient, exalted where seated
On throne or on cross, on both undefeated
II – Son of the Avenger
Son of a vessel, one made for wrath
Numbers like ghosts crowd the path
Numbered under the bloodiest ban
David sighs, he gives me up
I sip the dregs from this cup
The Gibeonites avenge their man
But I might have returned tall
If not a son of Saul
