12 Oct At Last Alive
Oh, what was an hour before the question
Oh, what a scene we played out before
Soaked to the bones through the skin
Listening to a new kind of folklore
Bathing the wet asphalt in halogen
Felt better than can’t-remember-when
At last alive, I understand
And stroll in greenest autumn again
Concealing psalms written by my hand
I was the happiest I have ever been
Waking dreams we act out in theater
Waking dreams I can never detail
Trying to align the feeling to meter
A fox on fire simply chasing his tail
And no verse nor rhyme clamored either
To bring dreams alive where I’d meet her
At last alive, I understand
And recite rosaries in the cold again
Family gold and glass in your hand
I was the happiest I have ever been
I could imagine what you were thinking
I could believe whatever I thought of
Over the clouds I felt myself sinking
Toward a more resounding love of love
Did you watch me in the sky shrinking
Somewhere tower lights were blinking
At last alive, I understand
And walk amid the rainy gardens again
Ever-blooming hydrangea on your hand
I was the happiest I have ever been
