As I perused the garden, what did rouse
Up high in branches, there in apple boughs?
Rest and be still, for I roused from my slumber to come and behold you,
Marvelous woman, a creature perfected from man, has he told you
That in a gaze it is fitting to claim I am drunk on His finest
Work, for the woman is higher perfection, the chief of His Highness’
Creatures; and such as it bears in my mind to believe in all fairness,
That I perhaps could share with the woman a bit of awareness:
First, I observed and I heard that God in the garden astutely
Made it forbidden for either of you to indulge in a fruit-tree.
Oh, curious indeed! Incorrect, you see.
It bears repeating, almost every tree
Is free for us to eat; if either I
Or Adam eat of this, we surely die.
Truly you jest, for the truth is as far from this as the sun to
Earth, and perhaps it is greater, for God in His wisdom has spun you
Quite a degree of a yarn, for He knows and I know, and all creatures,
Beast and divine, know this, and it seems to be strange of the features
God has bestowed to the Man and his wife, whom He carefully made in
Likeness of God, He neglected to share with His favored so ladened
Through all His graces the greatest of gifts, to indulge in its season
Fruit of the greatest of wisdoms, although for sufficient a reason.
I see the fruit, it pleases me. Forgive
Me, though I hunger, this is God’s to give.
I should agree if there is yarn to spin,
I ponder what His reasons might have been.
And what has God withheld? And what, in fact,
Is good enough for both of us to lack?
And what is meant by wisdom? Given this
Is true, for what in fruit is this we miss?
Truly I speak, for the Lord is the Giver of Life, and His choices
Never be questioned, for when the woman consumes and rejoices
After she swallows the fruit, in her mind and her heart is planted
Knowledge of evil and good, and in this is a glory He granted
Only Himself, as the wisdom surpasses our nature, perfecting
Creatures in every way, and for this He is fearful; so neglecting
This is indeed wise, lest He empower another as Goddess,
Should she observe it as useless existing imperfect and modest.
For this to be the reason makes some sense.
My mind has raced and found itself incensed.
Existing solely serving God is naught;
To live alone in mind and body ought
Entail superior existence, too.
For what is good in being here to you,
Reclusive souls alive as puppets sewn,
I stand ashamed, and given all I own.
So what did God allow existence for?
To fashion creatures that desire more?
The solipsism God produced in life,
Regrettably produced this chagrin and strife;
For what is useful through existing such,
To be and not to be, for God as much
Exists as we, and yet He keeps away
Its fullness; give the fruit to me today.
Here, it is good for the Man to consume it as well, so I give you
More, please share it with Man, he is hungry for wisdom, to live too,
Come and behold, all the knowledge the Lord had repressed exists in
Both of your minds, so you both must learn to observe and to listen,
Witness the things of the flesh, of your lust, in your shame and your callous
Hearts of rebellion, cover yourselves and now drink of a chalice
Vintage, for evil you chose, and so evil will come, as a wine bath
Chosen by the Woman and Man, this chalice of vengeance, divine wrath!
And God departs, for calling God absurd.
Oh, woe to me, to hear the evil word.
