02 Sep God’s Esteemed (The Visitation)
The heavens bear away the heights of men
For earthly power sews itself the proud
And kings on Earth are kings of only “when”
As time devours what it has endowed.
As once in time, a covenant bestows
The barren woman signs of coming kings:
The wilting flowers blooms, as Sarah knows;
And planets change in course, as Hannah sings.
The fearful king demands an infant dead
In Egypt once and now in Israel,
Afraid the maiden comes, in blue and red,
Adorned in light, heralds this reversal.
The lamp of old is kept alight, redeemed,
Remit forevermore to God’s esteemed.
